Have you ever noticed what a Government does to get what it wants? Tony Blair and his cronies want more money, so do they behave in an open and honest way and just increase income tax? Oh no, nothing so simple. With all the hype about greenhouse gases etc., the Government sees a golden opportunity to get more money out of us, yet look as if they are doing it to save the planet. All they have to do is get some naive people on their side, and then they can do exactly what they want, and better yet, get praised for screwing us once again.
You may think that the average person would be too smart to fall for this garbage, but you would be wrong. Just like always in our sad society, jealousy and greed win every time. The 'have nots' cheer when they hear that the 'haves' must pay extra taxes for the right to drive the car that they have bought and paid for, and then pat themselves on the back for doing their bit to save the planet.
It is exactly the same with housing. If you live in a house which is in a rural area, by the sea or has great views, you are going to pay almost twice as much council tax as someone who does not live in a so called scenic area. It matters not that you may have worked, slaved and saved every penny for the right to own a house in a decent area. Forget also that you do not have even half the services provided to town dwellers, you are going to pay big time, and all the 'have nots' couldn't care less, and are usually delighted, that that once again, the 'haves' are being targeted.
Smokers are also being targeted by our hypocritical Government - no, before you ask, I do not smoke, but I defend the right of those who do. Ask yourself one question, if everyone gave up smoking, what would the Government do? They would lose so much money in taxes, that they would immediately increase income tax. People may say now that they wouldn't mind paying more tax, but when they are hit in the pocket, just ask them again.
Yes, you are right, I do drive a 4x4, live in the country, and I make absolutely no apology for this. I worked really hard for everything I have, and I am sick to death of being penalised for this. Unlike some, I have enough intelligence to see the Government plays on the greed and envy of the 'have nots' who are dense enough to fall for it every time. I want some fair dealings but most of all I want justice.
Politics is getting what you want by just playing one section of society off against the other, and manipulation of people and getting their own way is something that Blair and his dreadful cronies are expert at.
